FEED/BEDDING
Our biggest bills are in the winter months and due to the hot summer, these are likely to be going up this year.
Some of our older horses and ponies have teeth missing, so making sure they have suitable feed is important. Hard feed costs are in excess of £800 per month.
Hay for the month costs us approximately £600 – £700 and bedding costs such as straw and shavings are over £300 per month.
MEDICATION/VET BILLS
This year has been bad for ailments, three of our horses have needed veterinary visits and treatment, this will really hit us hard putting up the vet bill to an excessive amount. Our vet bill is always an ongoing cost. We have some ponies on constant medication being treated for Cushing’s Disease, a common disease which can occur in older ponies. The cost of this medication is very expensive, but necessary to give them a better quality of life.
We also buy other herbal supplements e.g. turmeric and other mineral and vitamin supplements which compliment the health of our residents; worming treatments, fly control, hoof care, the list goes on, not forgetting the Farrier.
